As the founder and CEO of Magnetism Digital Agency, I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges and triumphs of building a business from the ground up. My journey from a small startup to leading a global digital agency has been filled with valuable lessons. In this post, I’d like to share some of the most important insights I’ve gained along the way, hoping they might help other aspiring entrepreneurs in the tech industry.
In 2014, I took the leap and founded Sepidtejarat Eghlim Aras, operating under the name Ishtarmedia. The decision to start my own digital agency was driven by a vision to create innovative digital solutions and a desire to build a team of passionate professionals who shared my enthusiasm for technology.
Lesson 1: Have a Clear Vision Having a clear vision is crucial. It guides your decisions, motivates your team, and helps you stay focused during challenging times. Our vision was to become a leading provider of cutting-edge digital solutions, and this has been our north star throughout our journey.
Lesson 2: Start Small, Think Big We started small, focusing on local clients and building our reputation project by project. However, we always had our sights set on bigger goals. This approach allowed us to gain experience and refine our processes while working towards our larger ambitions.
As Ishtarmedia gained recognition for its innovative solutions, we began to grow rapidly. This growth brought its own set of challenges.
Lesson 3: Embrace Change The tech industry is constantly evolving, and so must your business. We’ve had to adapt our services, learn new technologies, and sometimes pivot our approach to stay relevant and competitive.
Lesson 4: Invest in Your Team Your team is your most valuable asset. We’ve always prioritized hiring talented individuals and investing in their growth. This has paid off in the form of innovative ideas, high-quality work, and low turnover rates.
In 2021, we took a significant step by opening our first foreign office in Istanbul, Turkey. This move was both exciting and daunting.
Lesson 5: Do Your Homework Expanding internationally requires careful planning and research. We spent months studying the Turkish market, understanding local business practices, and building connections before making the move.
Lesson 6: Respect Cultural Differences Operating in a new country means adapting to a new culture. We learned the importance of respecting and embracing these differences, both in how we work with local clients and how we manage our multicultural team.
In 2024, we underwent a major rebranding, transforming Ishtarmedia into Magnetism Digital Agency. This decision was driven by our growth and evolving identity as a multinational company.
Lesson 7: Your Brand Should Reflect Your Identity As we grew and evolved, we realized our original brand no longer fully represented who we were. The rebranding to Magnetism Digital Agency better reflected our position as a global player in the digital solutions space.
Lesson 8: Timing is Everything Rebranding is a significant undertaking. We chose to do it at a time when we were financially stable and had a strong market position. This allowed us to focus on the rebranding process without compromising our day-to-day operations.
Of course, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. We’ve faced economic downturns, intense competition, and the global disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lesson 9: Resilience is Key In business, especially in the fast-paced tech world, setbacks are inevitable. What matters is how you respond to them. We’ve learned to view challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation.
Lesson 10: Diversify Your Offerings Having a diverse range of services has helped us weather economic uncertainties. When one sector slows down, others often pick up, providing stability to our business.
As we continue to grow and evolve, I’m excited about the future of Magnetism Digital Agency. We’re exploring new technologies, entering new markets, and constantly seeking ways to provide more value to our clients.
Lesson 11: Never Stop Learning The moment you think you know it all is the moment you start falling behind. I make it a point to continually educate myself about new technologies, business strategies, and industry trends.
Lesson 12: Give Back to the Community As we’ve grown, we’ve increased our focus on giving back. Whether it’s through mentoring programs, supporting local tech initiatives, or pro bono work for non-profits, we believe in the importance of contributing to the wider community.
The journey from a small startup to a global digital agency has been challenging, exciting, and immensely rewarding. While every entrepreneurial journey is unique, I hope these lessons provide some valuable insights for those embarking on their own business adventures.
